FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 10, 2020
St. John’s, NL – Today, Lakecrest Independent School will be hosting a virtual Shave for the Brave fundraiser in support of Young Adult Cancer Canada.
Shave for the Brave has always been about giving back to those facing unexpected adversity. Lakecrest faculty and students are thankful for the opportunity to contribute during these unprecedented times.
Head of School Gina Parsons says that Lakecrest prides itself on community engagement, and described this year’s event, saying enriched extra-curricular programs such as pandemic has been a challenge for our staff, but put students in the best position to contribute to society and expand their perspectives.
Ms. Parsons describes this year’s fundraiser as new and particularly distinct. “I know in previous years students would grow out their hair on purpose so that they could shave it off. This year, no one has been able to get a haircut at a salon or barber shop for three months. There has never been a better time to Shave for the Brave!”
Lakecrest will be hosting the virtual fundraiser at 2:00 p.m. and footage can be available to the media upon request. Additionally, Ms. Parsons is available to speak to the media, either through a virtual call or a socially distanced interview on the school grounds.
With $100,000 of a total $400,000 raised at time of release, Lakecrest Independent School encourages everyone to help Young Adult Cancer Canada reach their fundraising goal so they can help young adults fight and overcome cancer.
